SMS History Management

PNotifier keeps track of all phone numbers that have sent you SMS messages, allowing you to manage which messages get forwarded to your email.

How SMS History Works

Whenever PNotifier receives an SMS message, it records the originating phone number in its local database along with timestamps:

  • First Received: When the phone number first sent you an SMS
  • Last Received: When the phone number most recently sent you an SMS

This history serves two purposes:

  1. Tracking communication patterns
  2. Supporting the "Automatically ignore new addresses" feature

Viewing SMS History

To access the SMS History:

  1. Open PNotifier
  2. Tap the "SMS History" button on the home screen
  3. You'll see a list of all phone numbers that have sent you messages

Each entry shows:

  • The phone number (or contact name if address book integration is enabled)
  • First and last received timestamps
  • Current ignore status

Managing Ignored Addresses

You can control which phone numbers have their messages forwarded to email:

Manual Ignore Toggle

Next to each phone number in the history list, there's a toggle switch:

  • Off (default): Messages from this number will be forwarded
  • On: Messages from this number will be ignored and not forwarded

To ignore a number:

  1. Find the number in the SMS History list
  2. Tap the toggle switch to turn it on

To unignore a number:

  1. Find the number in the SMS History list
  2. Tap the toggle switch to turn it off

Automatic Ignore Feature

In the configuration settings, you can enable "Automatically ignore new addresses":

  • When enabled, all new phone numbers are automatically added to the ignore list
  • When disabled (default), all new phone numbers are forwarded until manually ignored

Address Book Integration

If you've enabled the "Use address book" setting in configuration:

  • Phone numbers in your contacts will be displayed as contact names
  • Unknown numbers will still display as phone numbers
  • This makes the history list more readable

Example:

  • Without address book: +1234567890
  • With address book: John Doe (+1234567890)

Clearing History

If you want to reset your SMS history:

  1. Open the SMS History screen
  2. Tap the "Clear All" icon (trash can) in the top right corner
  3. Confirm that you want to clear all history

This action will:

  • Delete all entries from the SMS history
  • Remove all numbers from the ignored list
  • Reset the app to its initial state regarding message history

Note: This does not affect your configuration settings or any SMS messages stored on your device.

Privacy Considerations

The SMS history is stored locally on your device and includes:

  • Phone numbers that have sent you messages
  • Timestamps of first and last received messages
  • Your ignore preferences

This data:

  • Is never transmitted to any external servers
  • Remains on your device even when the app is closed
  • Is deleted when you uninstall the app or clear its data
